This blog is for all of you closet artists out there. How many times have you said, or thought, “I’d really like to write, paint, sing, make a film…(fill in your art form here)”? There is no reason to put it off any longer. Now is always the right time to start something that you aspire to, dream about and long for.

While I do have quite a few short and sweet helpful hints for getting started in my own book, “101 Reasons to be Yourself”, I suggest that you find a copy of Julia Cameron’s “The Artists Way” and truly go for it.

This is not for the fainthearted, I’ll tell you that, but if you want to live your artistic dreams, this is the best gift you can give yourself. It is a 12-step program for blocked creatives that, used with intention, is capable of clearing the way for myriad creative possibilities you may not have known existed within you. It might be helpful to use the buddy system for moral support.

Reading and using “The Artists Way” in my little Whitehorse cabin in the woods led me to write, paint and surprisingly to me, become a performing singer/songwriter/guitarist and recording artist for several years. That, however, was not my true love, so once again, two years ago, I went through the book, as well as “Walking In This World” and “Finding Water” to find myself writing my own self-improvement book (and a novel, a blog and several articles).

Take it from someone who dreamed of being a writer since she was a small child. It’s never too late, or too soon, to do what you love.

Go on – just do it.

(This doesn’t have much to do with #6.Pamper Yourself, but here it is anyway.)
